FAQ

Choose the right coating

FAQ

  1. How do I choose the right coating to use?
    A. Many factors determine what coating to use. It is important to know the type of product being packaged, what functional property is needed and whether FDA compliance is required. It is also necessary to know the design characteristics. Is the box glued with a cold set or is it hot melted or a die cut.
  2. Can EC coatings be diluted?
    A. Yes, but since EC coatings are custom formulated it is unlikely that dilution will ever be necessary. Diluting will lower the performance of the coating. Be sure the diluted coating will still give the protection needed. Too much water affects runability causing warp and the need for longer drying time. Before diluting, we recommend you consult our technical staff.
  3. Is there one coating I can run for every coated order?
    A. Although one coating may work for many applications and there is some degree of overlap in coating properties, there is not one coating that will do every job.
  4. Should I order roll stock pre-coated?
    A. Pre-coated paper is more consistently and uniformly coated than in line coated liner on the corrugator. With pre-coated liner, corrugator speeds are not compromised. There is less waste, mess and downtime.
  5. What is the shelf life of EC coatings?
    A. Normally six months if unopened; however, it is important to properly rotate stock so that the oldest stock is run first. It also may be necessary to agitate before using.
